CRYOCOMPRESSION (help with pain in the mid-back that causes one to have discomfort upon breathing deeply)
Cryocompression is a technique that I created in 1994 while working for a neurologist. I had suffered from a nagging and disabling trigger point (TP) at the inner base of my shoulder blade. Traditional neuromuscular therapy (NMT) only helped temporarily, and the pain would return. It hurt to take a deep breath, and that is my cue as to whether someone needs this therapy. Traditional NMT was based on the premise that TP's are areas of high neurological activity that send noxious impulses into other areas causing referred pain. More recent electro-myographic studies have shown that TP's are not areas of high neurological activity, but low. This may be the reason traditional NMT did not have great success.
I set out to find every method that could stop a trigger point, and wanted to combine all at the same time, if possible. What resulted is what appears on the surface to be a simple therapy, but it has much science to back it up. I showed my technique to another therapiest and had him apply it to me. It worked, 100%!
Basically, the technique is robbing the muscle of its energy supply (oxygen) for a short period, thus causing the muscle contraction to "let go". Without an energy supply, the work of contraction cannot continue. Therefore there is a release of that TP (layman's term "knotted" up muscle). With the proper protocol, with my application, this therapy has been 100% effective. It involves the use of cold and pressure, with positioning, timing, and technique being vital. You don't want the application to be too long or too short. Studies with other therapies showed the correct range. These studies involved stretching, myofascial release, and biocryogenics.

Myofascial release is a form of soft tissue therapy intended to eliminate pain, increase range of motion, and rebalance the entire body.
